People of All Income Groups Concerned About Gas Prices

Back to Results Take This Poll

PollingPoint asked for your thoughts on skyrocketing fuel prices and how the energy crisis has affected your lifestyle. Here is what you had to say.

Do you expect the average price of gas to go down or keep climbing over the next twelve months?

68% of your thought the Iraq War has contributed "some" or "a lot" to the spike in gas prices.

How much do you think the war in Iraq has contributed to the spike in gas prices?

We asked whether you have made any lifestyle changes to cope with the fuel crisis. Many people said they have cut back on driving, although fewer said they have turned to alternative modes of transportation such as public transport, biking, or carpooling. This suggests that people may still be driving to work during the week but staying closer to home on weekends and holidays. The 62% who have cut back on non-gas expenses support economists' concerns that low consumer spending will only exacerbate America's economic slump.

Have rising gas prices caused you to do any of the following?

Respondents supported a variety of policy solutions to the oil crisis, with research and development of alternative fuel sources ranking first.

Which of the following policies do you support as a response to the oil crisis?

People even in the highest income brackets care a great deal about gas prices.
